How YOU Can Get Involved with Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon!

We have some great tips and advice about how you, as a spectator or resident, can get involved with the Marathon and help the participants get the best out of this race!

Charlotte Residents along the Course:  Host a Marathon Party

If you live along the course and are going to be cheering on the participants, invite some friends and neighbors and create a party atmosphere!

    1. Decorate your lawn/street with balloons, signs or banners.
    2. Play upbeat music from the radio or better yet, host a band!
    3. Cheer on the runners as they pass your party.  Most runners will be wearing bibs with their names printed on them.  Cheer them on by using their name.  Runners love it!
    4. Serve eggs and hot cocoa.
    5. Create a theme to your party and dress up!
      1. Stock Car Racing – in honor of the Thunder Road Marathon theme
      2. Royal Party – this is the Queen City!
      3. Favorite Sports Team – Especially if you like the Bobcats, Panthers, Checkers or Knights!
      4. Holiday Party – tis the season!
      5. Beach Theme –  Ignore the cold weather and have some fun!

Charlotte Businesses along the Course:  Support the Runners

If you work along the course get your employees and friends together to cheer on the runners

    1. Post banners and signs:  Susie’s Salon Welcomes Marathon Runners.
    2. Cheer on the runners as they pass by your establishment
    3. Wear your work uniform/apparel to advertise your business while the runners pass

Fan Zones

Join us at various Fan Zones along the course to cheer on your friends and family running the event or just come out and support your community.  We have neighborhood associations, local bands, DJ’s and area high schools just to name a few!!  There will also be Blind Manifest and Thunder Brothers at the finish line again this year to keep you rocking!  Click here for details on Fan Zone locations.

*Please do not cheer the following:   Almost There!  Not Far to Go!  Just a Little Bit Further!  Or similar.
